RX65 S7 vs KA 35.x .. Not Good

I've had my S7 for about 3-4 weeks now, (USA mode since day one) and haven't had a single Ka alert yet, this was my first. I was beginning to think it was broken.
Started with a friendly truck flashing his highbeams about 6 times so I knew something was up ahead. My first pass vs the cop I got absolutely NO warning! It is possible he was not on, but he had it facing right out the window when I drove by!.. so I don't know why he would do that if it was off.

I decided to turn around and take another swing.. this video is traveling back the opposite direction so I can set myself up for another run. You will see him hiding behind a bridge on the far Left (black/white SUV). This area is a nice little speed trap that drops from 50 to 40 right on the bridge and resumes 50 on the other side again.

I continued about a mile past and turned around. While about a mile away and at a 90* angle to him (intersection) I got another Ka hit, but as soon as i turned directly towards him, it went away. Not sure if this was the same cop but I'm thinking unlikely.. as you'll see my approach towards him I get absoultely no hits until I'm on top of him and it would have already been too late! I think he gave me a funny look too but it wasn't captured on the vid.



I'm a little puzzled why it took me so long to find Ka around here, ontop of it not alerting the first time. Wondering if I have a bad unit here. I get K hits constantly though, seemingly like every mile or two. Is the sheer angle of the bridge to blame here? What are your thoughts/impressions?

His radar probably wasn't on in the first video. The second video he wasn't aiming it at you. Also in the approach in the second video - there are concrete barriers on the bridge that isolated his radar's line of sight from your vehicle until you were practically on top of him. His position would have made it nearly impossible to shoot directly at you until the last few seconds.

If you are sure that was a radar gun he had pointing out the window and not LIDAR, PM Escortradar here on the forum and arrange for a replacement.

With the overhead power lines and low hill, you should have received an alert before crossing the bridge if he were targeting vehicles as they crossed over top. The S7 should be a real monster in those situations in USA mode.

Well the two vids were only about 3 minutes apart, not sure why he would switch from lidar to Ka unless he had a toybox in there to play around with. Is it possible he was aiming down at the ground at such an angle that I wouldn't pick it up? Or would the waves bounce around/reflect and I would pick it up regardless?

I'm also thinking it's possible he simply didn't turn the radar on until he was across most of the bridge. Definitely wasn;t aimed at him in any case.

Ok, after watching the video again I would send that unit back.

Doesn't matter if he was being selective or was shooting you with Lidar and for whatever reason left his dash mount radar running (which some knuckle head LEOs do).

The bottom line is that when you came into view and passed in front of that LEO your RX65 should have been going ape$hit regardless of where the radar was pointed and it was not.

Don't wait, just get it exchanged. The RX65(S7) should be putting a big smile on your face, not doubts in your mind.

I'm not one to jump to conclusions from a single encounter, but I wouldn't trust that unit until I had better results with other 35.5 encounters.

I have an old S7 X50. If that was anything other than him leaving his rear horn hot, I would send it in for repair.

If it's forward facing (perpendicular to the road) it should have gone nuts when you drove through the beam.

I'll talk to him. I've also noticed lots of K band encounters around here (5x more common).. and max range only seems to be about 1/4 mile, even with them aiming directly down the road parked off on the shoulder.

Yeah that definitely ain't right. You should be getting much better range than that on K band.
